ReThink Theatrical seeks a Producer for ReThink On-Air, a radio play which will open to live, socially - distant audiences in early June 2021. This individual will lead the organizational aspects of the creative process of this production (with guidance from the Director of Production). Responsibilities will begin with the writing/development process in early/mid February and end with closing night of the production in June. Candidates should be capable of facilitating a group of writing staff (3-4 writers), and a production team consisting of directors (3-4), stage manager, and supporting designers. Candidates should be prepared to communicate the needs of their team to top levels of company management, and provide reports on how the production is going. Ideally, time commitment should be 3-5 hours per week, but can fluctuate.

Because on-site work will be required, Producers should be within driving distance of New Brunswick, NJ. While ReThink Theatrical consists entirely of volunteers, we are offering a stipend of $250.



  • Aiding the Director of Production in liaising between production staff and company staff

  • Regular check-ins and progress reports on the development of writer's scripts and directors vision statements

  • Organizing and scheduling weekly meetings with the writing staff, bi-weekly (every two weeks) production meetings with the production staff, and (as needed) meetings with Marketing, Development and other company staff

  • Creating rehearsal plans in collaboration with the Directors and Stage Manager, organizing audition logistics, and communicating with venue/admin staff to make sure that rehearsal and performance spaces are available when needed

  • Help in selection of the directors, stage manager, and production staff

  • Ensure that the teams are meeting regularly throughout the rehearsal process and that the production is on schedule.

    • Organize and facilitate writing process for 3-4 writers

    • Assist with choosing directors and stage manager

    • Ensure script are in their final form by writers and facilitate script handoff to production staff

  • Early April

    • Assist directors and stage manager in creating a rehearsal plan, highlighting production staff needs, participating in organizing production staff calls and hiring process

  • Mid April

    • Help to facilitate audition logistics and casting

  • April - June

    • Oversee the rehearsal process

    • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings

    • Give regular reports on how the rehearsal process is going

In order to develop adapted or new works, ReThink Theatrical seeks 3-5 writers to compose 10-15 minute radio plays that grapple technology, futurism, and/or science fiction. These radio plays can be adapted from works within the public domain or original stories. While the voice of the plays can vary, we ask that all content remains family friendly (i.e., rated PG). See below for a curated list of examples to choose from and feel free to submit your own idea. We ask that each writer submit one idea per person. 


While character lists can be limitless, the casts will consist of 2-3 people. Stories will be produced and performed in front of small audiences and streamed online, but need to focus on foley art (or the creation of sounds) to emulate the narrative. The audio of these radio plays will be produced afterwards in the form of a podcast. Sets, costumes, props, and other visual elements will be minimal. All actions, dialogue, and settings should be portrayed with sound. Each play will be assigned a director to oversee the artistic decision making around the foley art, voicing of the actors, and more. 


While ReThink Theatrical is welcoming of all people to apply, we encourage people of color, womxn, disabled people, and LGBTQ+ people to apply. We also encourage writers that live in the central New Jersey area to apply, but all are welcome to do so. ReThink consists of volunteers, but we are introducing a way to apply for a small stipend to cover costs associated with this position. 



By mid-February, the selected writers will begin development of their first draft. This draft will be due in early March. We will organize a table reading by mid-March for writers to gain valuable feedback and clarity. The final draft of the script will be due by early April. At this point, a director will take the script and produce it with a small cast. Writers will report to the show’s Producer throughout their process.

This can be anything you've written before, such as a play, poem, short story, or narrative of your choosing. This does not need to be related to the proposed play for ReThink On Air. Please keep all writing samples to two pages. Once submissions close, writers and their samples will be reviewed and chosen by ReThink Theatrical’s Artistic Council.
